Fitness and Yoga
Yoga is different from traditional physical exercise in that it is a toolthat not only benefits the physical body, but the mind and spirit through breathing.
I first discovered yoga in November of 2005 through one of my all-time favorite yoga DVDs- MTV Yoga, by Kristin McGee- a fantastic DVD with excellent instruction and music. One go-around and I was hooked. I later ventured out to a local yoga studio in the Phoenix-metro area of Arizona to discover another one of my all-time favorite, gifted, and unique yoga teachers, David Romanelli. After one class with David, I decided to study yoga and become an instructor myself. I dare you tochallenge yourself. Move at your own pace, set your own standards, and you will succeed not only on your yoga mat, but in life. - Chrissy Barth

I first took yoga at a small studio in Malibu, CA. I instantly fell in love and started attending the circuit of classes in LA. When my buddy Ian Lopatin told me he was quitting his job to move to Phoenix and open yoga studios, I thought he was nuts. But I went out to visit and fell in love with the idea of “lifestyle entrepreneurialism.” We opened the first At One Yoga in 1998. Initially I handled marketing and then I took a training and started teaching. Growing up, I loved going to Grateful Dead shows where they’d play a unique set of songs at each show. I add that same uniqueness to my classes, you will hear tunes ranging from Sinatra to Phish and everything in between. I called my style Yeah Dave Yoga.
Yoga has been such a life-saving, life-altering experience and I want to share it with everyone. Mindfullness, peacefullness, agility, strength and compassion are just a few of the many benefits of Yoga and as you start a practice or continue to develop one deeper, you’ll continue to discover the possibilities are limitless.
And in addition to improving your physical health, a consistent yoga practice will help you to begin quieting the thoughts that keep you distracted during the day and awake at night. When you are truly present… living right here, right now without distracting thoughts, then you can experience peace and contentment.
Julie teaches a challenging, Ashtanga-based yoga class filled with great music and laughter. On the mat, she encourages her students to consider the difficulties one faces in their yoga practice symbolic of the larger challenges one must deal with in the outside world. Her goal is to leave her students feeling peaceful, yet strong, thus more open to effectively deal with those larger challenges. It is Julie’s hope, that through their yoga practice, her students will cultivate the strength, peace, and equanimity to face those challenges.
Yoga is a body, mind, and spirit connection. I practice yoga to find that unification. Not only does yoga expand the body, but it quiets the mind in order to get in touch with the essence that is truly you. Yoga is a daily part of my life and I feel that taking the time to practice will enhance the quality of your life in ways you cannot imagine.
I took to yoga immediately. Yoga is something I thoroughly enjoy. The longer I stick with it the more I realize that it’s something that’ll never get old. There is no ultimate goal, destination or end with yoga. It’s not about retiring wealthy, winning a championship, looking sexy or anything else like that. Yoga is about discovering something you never knew could exist, doing something you never believed you could do, and creating today what yesterday you never could have imagined.
